Attack or defense?

We can read in the newspaper Dagbladet on a video released by Hamas, which shows when it angiper some Israeli soldiers.

Worth noting is that in the text that those attacks Israeli troops have occupied an of their house, so it's natural to ask the question who attacker who here? Is it right to say that Hamas defendant here, or attack them? Can we attack an attacker?
